Les Beletsky’s Travellers’ Wildlife Guides: Costa Rica has been around for a while, earlier editions titled Ecotravellers’ Guide, but in spite of my many trips to Costa Rica I had never spent much time with this book, preferring to use more specific guides instead of one book that covers many taxa incompletely. I’m just back from another NJ Audubon tour to this wonderful Central American country, and this time I made the commitment to check out Beletsky’s book. The verdict? It’s surprisingly good, with accurate prose that’s often playful and good coverage of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. If you’re heading to Costa Rica, it’s worth considering this volume.
