January 2009: Warren Greene
Like most other outdoor photographers I have been fascinated by the natural world as far back as I can remember. I can still vividly remember how, as a child, I was always pursuing and catching various insects and one day I caught a Ruby-throated Hummingbird that I mistook for some type of butterfly. As a teenager I expanded my horizons, and became especially interested in reptiles and amphibians.
It wasn’t until I graduated college in 1975 that I became interested in photography and purchased my first camera. My motivation at the time was watching the fascinating behavior of a pair of Blue Jays raising their young in my parents’ backyard.
As someone who has a full time job and a family I have mostly, with a few exceptions, confined my photography to my home area of the Adirondacks in upstate New York. When I am fortunate enough to capture a really good shot it is my hope that by sharing it with others that they will be able to experience and appreciate the beauty of that moment, and feel the same sense of fascination with the natural world that I have felt since I was a child.
